1951 Stacking Side Chair
A friend sent Emeco one of their chairs from 1951. It was kind of dumpy, so Emeco asked BMW design works to update it the same way they updated the MINI. Launched in 2005, the 1951 is now part of the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City. Emeco was founded in 1944 to make chairs for submarines in WWII.
The 77-step process continues to this day, producing chairs that are
elegantly designed and environmentally friendly. Each chair is
constructed from 80% recycled content and is 100% recyclable. Emeco
employs a proprietary heat treatment that results in aluminum chairs
that are tougher than steel. The restaurant industry is fast-paced and
high-traffic - Emeco chairs will withstand whatever demands are placed
on them.
